So, our Mom is at The Bristal in West Babylon, she's been there going on 5 years or so. First things first, DO NOT bring your parents to The Bristal, they will woo you with all the bells and whistles to get you in there. Once you're in, they sink their teeth so far into you that you can hardly breath. For $150k a year, keep your parents in their home, hire two aids and save your Mom/Dad some money and yourself the heartache of knowing The Bristal doesn't treat your family like their family. My Mom is not happy there, but she is a positive Polly, so every day she puts on her happy face and goes about her business.Second, hope to God that there is not a staff change for the nurse that is doling out the medications. Because the stand ins have NO idea what they are doing or who gets what medicine. You would think that a place like The Bristal would have a chart on every single resident (dietary needs, medications, habits, preferences, etc...) so that when a new or substitute hire comes in, they can continue the flow that the residents are used to without causing disruption to the residents' routine. Let me also say, that if they do in fact have charts like these, they should teach the aids how to read them. Then of course there is the pricing! It is absolutely OUT OF CONTROL and there is no negotiating with these people. If your parent walks in there on their own and happens to slip or fall, forget it. You'd better mortgage your home so that you can pay for the "service care increase" they are going to drop on you.On top of that, they just sent out increase notices that take effect in January 2025. It's about a $40 a day increase depending on your parents' service needs. Not bad right?! Well, you have to multiply that by 30 days and then by 12 months. So, basically, you're paying an additional $29,000 a day for them to do and in some cases to not do the same thing. The food isn't going to get better, the aides aren't going to be more compassionateWhat do you like most about living here? Answer: No Are the common areas pleasant and comfortable for socializing or relaxing? Answer: Yes How would you rate the quality and variety of the meals? (1-5) Answer: 2 Are special diets handled well? Answer: No Is the dining schedule flexible enough to meet your preferences? Answer: No How do you feel about the level of social interaction available with other residents? Answer: How was the units offered in this community? Answer: Do you feel safe living in this community? Answer: Yes How well do you think the community handles emergencies or unexpected events? Answer: Their first thing is to call an ambulance without knowing the full scope of what is happening. Are there any hidden fees or unexpected charges? Answer: Yes, my Mom went from a Level 2 to a Level 7 after having a surgery that did nothing to make her more reliant than she was before. Would you recommend this community to others looking for senior living options? Answer: No Is there anything you wish you knew before moving in? Answer: Yes, for the amount of money you charge, you should have an aide for every 5 residents. Instead, you overwork your aides and your residents suffer because of it and the lack of compassion.
