How much does it cost to live in assisted living?
According to the Administration on Community Living (ACL), assisted living costs on the baseline of $3,628 per month with a breakdown of $119 a day. Generally, the mode of payment is different for many families of assisted living. There are those that pay for assisted living without credit transactions so long as they use Medicaid ( a federal and state financial program that finds solutions to lower healthcare costs from little to no costs). There are some families that pay with private insurance, life insurance, or annuities.
Will Medicare/Medicaid pay for my assisted living?
Yes and no. The federal and state governments programs offer Medicaid which covers medical and healthcare fees– regardless of age. This means that seniors looking for assisted living homes are eligible for Medicaid– so long as they meet the requirements of their state; although, almost to none, a person with a very special circumstance is eligible for both Medicaid and Medicare. That said, Medicare does not pay for assisted living, or rent related to any senior living residence; just as Medicare is used to pay physician visits, hospital fees, and medical equipment. Medicare does not cover medical fees at an assisted living home.
What is the difference between assisted living and nursing home?
Assisted living and nursing homes are not independent living; they do not share the same approach to senior care. Assisted living and nursing homes essentially cater to seniors who require assistance, regardless of the level of care needed. Both types of homes are managed by professional staff and provide specific features aimed at ensuring a comfortable lifestyle. The goal of assisted living and nursing home management is to provide quality hospitality while accommodating the essential needs of seniors who require assistance and monitoring. The former and the latter share the vision of offering the best accommodations for seniors, making both options feel more like home and inclusive to guests. However, it is important to note that there will always be a fine line between these two concepts. In this case, the key distinction between assisted living and nursing homes lies in the level of care provided.
