We placed our Aunt with dementia in this care home. It looked attractive and like a place she would like. When she went in she was chatty, cheerful and loved to visit. I got a text from Emma that she was talking too much, walking around too much and coughing too much. She sounded more annoyed than concerned. She wanted to sedate her to calm her down. I said as long as it didn't change her personality. When we visited next she was over sedated and barely acknowledged us. But she was able to mention that there was a male caregiver that was rough and impatient with her. It was hard to know what to believe with her dementia. I asked about her meds making her so sleepy but they insisted it was necessary to help with her being combative. After this she rapidly declined and passed away after 2 months of being there. They said it was her dementia that just advanced quickly.. what really bothered us is the way the hospice company let us know she died - by texting me that they got a call from the group home, they were going there to check vitals and do we have a mortuary picked out. Not a phone call or even an "we are very sorry..." Also, after she passed we didn't hear one word from Emma or Mark offering condolences. Just that for the week after she passed, that we already paid rent for, would not be refunded, and that we needed to pick us her belongings. Doesn't really convince us that they cared. On Yelp, we have read that another resident was over, sedated so much that when he left and went to behavioral health, they found that the sedation was causing him to be combative, not helping him.
