Joyful Living Care Home Reviews

Dhyana Pond
My mother stayed here for a few months, up until we got an email stating that they had filed bankruptcy and were closing. We were fine with the place at first (we didn’t love it, but it was adequate for the time being). And then after the closing notice email, the care went severely downhill. They stopped feeding my mom all her meals. They would give her pudding for dinner or a couple spoonfuls of dry Cheerios. They knew she was a vegetarian, but they microwaved a chicken pot pie and had her eat it. Towards the end, they simply ran out of food and stopped shopping for more. At one of my visits, it was 3:30pm and she had still not been fed lunch. I had to insist that they bring it. But even worse was the treatment and lack of cleanliness. They refused to give her the pain meds that hospice had prescribed her. They barricaded my mom in her bed by wedging two recliner backs against it. They left her on the floor multiple times if she had fallen ( a few of these times, I arrived to find her on the floor). They were rough with her. They did not clean her wounds correctly, so they got infected. And her room was always filthy with scraps of food on the floor from the day before, blood from her wounds spread across dirty sheets, and her “diaper” was only changed when we insisted. They would often leave her in it for hours. They are closing, but are moving to a home in Glendale (59th Ave). Stay clear! Just a horrible and very upsetting experience. When they found out my mom was leaving, they stopped doing anything for her the last few days (even though we were paid up for two weeks past the date she moved out). At least she is somewhere safe and clean with wonderful care now. What do you like most about living here? Answer: It was awful for my mom. Are there enough caregivers to handle the residents' needs, especially during emergencies? Answer: No Are the common areas pleasant and comfortable for socializing or relaxing? Answer: No How would you rate the quality and variety of the meals? (1-5) Answer: 1 Are special diets handled well? Answer: No Is the dining schedule flexible enough to meet your preferences? Answer: No How do you feel about the level of social interaction available with other residents? Answer: Awful. They kept her secluded in her room. How was the units offered in this community? Answer: They were nice enough in the beginning, but then they stopped cleaning. Do you feel safe living in this community? Answer: No How well do you think the community handles emergencies or unexpected events? Answer: Awful Are there any hidden fees or unexpected charges? Answer: None that I am aware of. Would you recommend this community to others looking for senior living options? Answer: Never. Is there anything you wish you knew before moving in? Answer: I wish I knew how bad the care was. I never would have moved my mom in here.
