Overview of The Heritage Houses

Operating a network of six communities across the Dallas-Fort Worth area, The Heritage Houses is a family-owned assisted living provider. It has locations in Allen, Garland, Murphy, Plano, Richardson, and Rockwall under its parent company, Heritage Senior Living. Residents can choose from private and semi-private rooms in single-story buildings. Alongside assisted living, the organization also offers dedicated memory care units for residents in the early stages of cognitive decline, as well as hospice and palliative care.

Executive Director Gretchen Vakiener leads the organization and brings more than 20 years of experience in senior living and long-term care. She began her career as a licensed nursing home administrator, later served as Executive Director of Friendship Village of Columbus, and joined Heritage Senior Living as Executive Director of Traditions of Hanover. She brought that community to full occupancy before moving into her regional leadership role.

Residents receive assistance with activities of daily living and medication management. They also have access to prepared meals, housekeeping, and transportation services. Beauty services, social activities, and recreational programs are part of daily life. Pets are not allowed in the community.

The Dallas-Fort Worth location is about 8.6 miles from downtown Dallas, and Methodist Charlton Medical Center is approximately 5 miles away. The neighborhood has a Walk Score of 5 out of 100. Most errands require a car rather than a walk. Families who expect to visit regularly or arrange transportation may want to keep that in mind when planning.
