The Department completed a follow-up inspection of the Assisted Living Facility to verify correction of previously cited deficiencies related to medication administration.
Complaint Details
The complaint investigation found that a facility med tech administered long-acting insulin to a resident for 19 days after the physician discontinued the medication, leading to a seizure. The med tech admitted to administering the medication from memory despite its removal from the medication administration system. Additional insulin pens remained in the facility refrigerator after discontinuation. Citation was written for this failed provider practice.
Findings
The follow-up inspection found no deficiencies and confirmed that the previously cited medication administration deficiency was corrected. The facility meets Assisted Living Facility licensing requirements.
