Inspection Report Summary for Sunrise of Beverly Hills

Sunrise of Beverly Hills, a 740‑type residential care facility in Beverly Hills, has undergone several licensing evaluations since early 2021. In a June 2021 Component II interview, Administrator Jason Malone confirmed his knowledge of Title 22 regulations, staff qualifications, abuse policies, and administrative requirements. The interview, conducted by CAB analyst Carla Sanchez, was completed in half an hour and resulted in a clean, “Component II successfully completed” status, indicating the facility met baseline licensing expectations.

A week later, the facility’s change‑of‑ownership pre‑licensing review on 16 July 2021 confirmed that the proposed capacity of 127 residents (118 non‑ambulatory, 9 bed‑ridden) was supported by the physical plant. The evaluator noted a five‑story beige structure with 80 units, 86 bathrooms, a gym, bistro, and fully functional kitchen appliances. Walkable areas were free of hazards, and bedroom and bathroom layouts complied with regulations. No deficiencies were cited, and the evaluator provided guidance for operating within substantial compliance, after which the case was forwarded to the Central Applications Unit for final review.

An unannounced incident visit on 7 September 2022 addressed a fire in a suite that resulted in damage to resident rooms. The licensing program analyst, Troy Agard, interviewed Administrator Jason Malone, toured the damaged area, and reviewed the resident roster and emergency disaster plan. The plan had been activated and the facility relocated eight residents to vacant suites while cleanup and air‑quality assessments were underway. Agard noted that the facility had followed its disaster plan and scheduled a follow‑up visit to verify remediation.

The most recent unannounced inspections in July 2023—both an annual 1‑year inspection on 24 July and a case‑management visit on 26 July—showed continued compliance. Administrator Rita Meldonian led the tour, which covered the same five‑story structure and functional kitchen. Walkways were clear, food storage met regulatory standards, sharps were secured, and no deficiencies were observed. Resident counts were 68 on 24 July and 67 on 26 July, reflecting the facility’s capacity in use. These inspections reinforced that Sunrise of Beverly Hills has maintained a stable, compliant operational environment, though it remains responsive to incidents and licensing updates.
