Surveyor conducted a complaint investigation from 02/06/2024 to 02/13/2024 at Heritage at Deer Creek following an allegation that the provider did not provide prompt care when a tenant called for help.
Complaint Details
The complaint was substantiated. Tenant 1 called for assistance around 6:45 a.m. on 01/17/2024 but staff did not respond until approximately 7:50 a.m. EMS was called at 7:54 a.m. Tenant 1 was found unresponsive and deceased. The delay was attributed to a dead phone used by staff to receive call alerts and lack of timely response by night shift staff.
Findings
One deficiency was identified and substantiated related to the provider's failure to ensure tenant health and safety in the event of an emergency. Tenant 1 called for assistance at approximately 6:45 a.m. on 01/17/2024 but did not receive a response for about one hour and was found deceased.
