Memory Care & Respite Care · Fuquay-varina, NC

Overview of The Springs of Ballentine

The Springs of Ballentine sits at 40 Rawls Club Road in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. It is a memory care community, built for residents living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Respite care is offered as well, which covers families who need short-term placement rather than a permanent move.

Fifty beds, forty-five of them occupied. That works out to 90 percent occupancy, a number worth knowing because a community this close to capacity may not have a room available when a family needs one. Fuquay-Varina is a suburban town southwest of Raleigh, and the immediate area scores 66 on the Walk Score scale. That rates as moderately walkable, with some errands manageable on foot.

The care structure runs on nursing services and staffing coverage around the clock. Respite care operates as its own track within that structure. The community states that it builds care plans around the individual resident.

Housekeeping, maintenance, and transportation handle the practical side of daily life. Residents have a library, an entertainment room, and an outdoor common area available to them. Meals are served restaurant-style.

What the record supports is a small memory care community, nearly full, in a suburban North Carolina town, with a service list that covers the fundamentals of dementia care.

The Springs of Ballentine Reviews

Jessica Regn
FYI, their phone number and fax number are disconnected. I could write a full page on how dangerous this place is, but I'll do my best to summarize. I don't typically write negative reviews, however they worked hard to conceal how my father was being neglected and mistreated by their staff. He became severely dehydrated. If we handed him a drink, he greedily consumed it. He was not able to get drinks or food himself. I kept asking them to put drinks near him frequently, but he never had one and was always extremely thirsty when we offered him a drink. The medical provider even put in her notes that the facility needed to provide more fluids. I found him unresponsive and had them call EMS. His sodium was 168 (if you don't know, that's nearly fatal) from dehydration. It took 4 days of IV fluids before he started to normalize. And the ED found NINE pressure injuries - including one TO THE BONE on his sacrum. They hid them from us. He was nearly dead when he was hospitalized. I'm posting this in hopes to save someone else's loved one from this fate. They not only didn't communicate any concerns, they actively tried to hide it from us. Don't be fooled by the fancy appearance. Instead look at how many staff members there are compared to how many residents. Notice how far away rooms are from the one nursing station in back of the building. Notice how they keep the doors closed to everyone's room - you have no idea if a resident is in there or not, or how long it's been since someone checked on them. Trust your gut.
