Inspection Report Summary for Coastal House, Inc.
The California Department of Social Services Community Care Licensing Division conducted unannounced annual visits to Coastal House, Inc. in Los Angeles on three occasions—August 30, 2022; November 2, 2023; and November 9, 2024. Each visit was led by a Licensing Program Analyst who reviewed the facility’s physical plant, resident care records, medication administration, infection‑control practices, and safety systems. The facility, licensed to house six seniors (four residents at each inspection) and holding a hospice waiver for five, consistently demonstrated that rooms, bathrooms, and common areas met Title 22 standards, that bedding, linens, and personal storage were adequate, and that smoke, carbon‑monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers, and emergency food supplies were properly maintained.
The 2022 evaluation found no deficiencies. Caregiver and administrator participation was noted, and the facility’s infection‑control protocols—including visitor screening, hand‑sanitizing stations, and posted posters—were deemed satisfactory. Medication records were accurate, and all required signage and safety equipment were present and functional.
During the 2023 inspection, the analyst identified a single regulatory shortfall: the facility had failed to conduct a fire or earthquake drill with direct‑care staff in more than a year, violating CCR 87705(I)(8). A corrective action plan required the administrator to schedule quarterly drills and provide documented proof to the agency. All other aspects of care and safety remained in compliance, and no other deficiencies were cited.
The 2024 inspection, although partially truncated in the provided text, similarly reported an intact physical structure, operational safety devices, and acceptable water temperatures (116.5°F–118.2°F). No new deficiencies were documented, indicating that the corrective plan from 2023 was likely implemented and that the facility continued to meet licensing standards.
Across these visits, Coastal House, Inc. consistently maintained high standards in resident care, infection control, and environmental safety, with the sole, brief lapse in fire‑drill compliance during 2023. The corrective plan and subsequent inspections suggest a responsive management team committed to regulatory adherence.
