My mother and I went to tour this care home as a prospective place for my father. We really liked the home and the owner, Agnes. She said she could take him with all of his medical needs. The following day, my mother let the social worker that we were using to help with placement know that we wanted to go forward with this home. My mother also let the social worker know that the night before my father had started to need oxygen and wanted Agnes to be aware of this change since we had toured the home the day prior and told her my father’s medical needs. The social worker let Agnes know and Agnes told the social worker that she wanted to call the facility my father was at and find out more information from his doctor. Unbeknownst to us Agnes drove to the facility and spoke with not only my father’s case worker and his nurse but she also went and saw him. This was all done without us knowing and without our permission. FYI, my mother is my father’s medical power of attorney. This was a HIPPA violation and also very unprofessional. I spoke with the director of the facility and she said that Agnes was wrong for doing this and that my father’s case worker and nurse should not have shared information about him without our consent. I would think twice about choosing this home for your loved one. Obviously the owner of the home does not care about following the rules/laws.
