Runk and Pratt Willow Ridge is a multi-level senior living community in Lynchburg, Virginia, providing independent living, assisted living, and memory support services in one setting. As part of the Runk and Pratt Senior Living brand, a family-founded Virginia operator with multiple locations across the state, it is administered by Patrick B. Hurt. The community has 85 licensed beds, with 36 currently occupied, representing a 42% occupancy rate.
The community has undergone 13 inspections, four of which were complaint-initiated. 61.5% of these visits resulted in violations, a little below the Virginia average of 64.3%, and have accumulated a total of 35 deficiencies, which is just above the state average of 32. The latest review in October 2025 also addressed personnel background checks, medication administration, and resident care. Over time, several complaint investigations were substantiated, mostly involving resident care concerns and medication errors. However, no fines or license suspensions were reported.
An apartment-style living environment paired with an extensive selection of amenities is provided, including three chef-prepared meals daily served by wait staff in a full-service dining room. On-site features also include a library, a general store, a fitness center, a beauty parlor and barbershop, a billiards room, and a paved walking trail that surrounds this pet-friendly community. Maintenance, linen service, and housekeeping are also provided. To keep residents socially, physically, and mentally active, full-time directors manage a busy events calendar. For those requiring clinical assistance, wellness and prevention programs, on-site therapy, medication management, and physician appointments are available, while memory support is provided through a specialized program for those experiencing cognitive decline. Additionally, health needs are monitored 24/7 by licensed staff, and emergency phones are installed in every room to ensure resident safety.
Runk and Pratt Willow Ridge is an ideal option for active older adults and those requiring moderate assistance seeking a socially engaged lifestyle and a wide range of amenities within an organization rooted in Virginia.
Kensington Reston is a licensed senior living community in Reston, Virginia, offering assisted living, memory care, and rehabilitation services. Administered by Llena Sta. Ana, the community serves Northern Virginia families through a multi-level care model that includes specialized memory care, couples care, and an acuity-based approach. This community is also part of The Kensington brand, which is generally positioned at the higher end of the assisted living market. Currently serving 87 residents with a 105-bed capacity, the community is at 83% occupancy rate, which reflects moderate availability.
The community has completed 15 state inspections, slightly above the Virginia average of 14, reflecting a longer operating history. Violations were cited in 5 inspections, or 33.3%, which is well below the state average of 64.3%. In addition, a total of 15 deficiencies have been recorded across all inspections, well below the state average of 32. The most recent inspection on July 15, 2025, conducted as a renewal review, also identified 4 deficiencies related to resident assessments, staff qualifications, and medication management, representing the highest number of findings in a single inspection for the community. Two complaint investigations were reported, both of which were not substantiated. There are no records of fines, immediate jeopardy findings, or license actions. Families are encouraged to ask about steps taken to address the July 2025 findings.
Residents have access to nursing services, licensed nurses and certified nursing assistants, rehabilitation services, respite care, and short-term rehabilitation. Along with signature programs that include The Kensington Club for assisted living, a dedicated memory care program, Couples Care that allows partners with different care needs to remain together, and an Acuity Care model that adjusts support based on individual health requirements, are provided. This range of services makes the community well-equipped to support residents with more complex or changing needs.
Kensington Reston is a strong option for families in Northern Virginia seeking a higher-acuity care environment with structured clinical support. Its Couples Care and Acuity Care offerings also appeal to households managing differing or evolving care needs. Additionally, its location in Reston also provides convenient access for families living along the Tysons to Dulles corridor.
Oakmont at Gordon Park is a large-scale assisted living and memory care community managed by Hillary Akers in Bristol, Virginia, providing a warm, structured environment designed to offer personalized support for older adults with various care needs. This 167-bed community is currently operating at approximately 53% occupancy, which is significantly lower than the Virginia average of 85.7%, reflecting open availability.
The community has completed 14 inspections, which identified a total of 34 deficiencies. Additionally, a monitoring inspection on March 26, 2025, identified 7 deficiencies related to medication administration, the storage of hazardous materials, healthcare recordkeeping, building upkeep, and emergency protocols. Additionally, a complaint from November 2024 regarding staff records and resident supervision was substantiated. Although no fines or formal licensing sanctions are on record, the recent findings suggest that interested families should ask for updates on corrective measures implemented after the March 2025 inspection.
Extensive amenities and services are offered, including three daily meals served in a country-style kitchen, along with healthy snacks and scheduled local transportation. The programming also includes supervised daily activities, wellness exercises, and 24-hour staffing with licensed nurses and CNAs. While every private suite includes all utilities, cable television, weekly laundry, and general maintenance, a secured courtyard patio and specialized programs are also available for both assisted living and memory care.
With its immediate openings and solid service base, Oakmont at Gordon Park represents an ideal option for older adults seeking memory care or assisted living in the Bristol area. However, it is recommended that families review the latest compliance documents and discuss with the management about the improvements made following their 2025 regulatory review.
Westminster Canterbury of Lynchburg is a not-for-profit Life Plan community operated by a church in Lynchburg, Virginia, offering assisted living, rehabilitation services, skilled nursing, and respite care. Administered by Lori Sweeney, this 78-bed community holds CARF accreditation, a nationally recognized standard in aging services, along with a Gold Award for Best Retirement Community and a 5-star inspection rating, placing it among the more highly credentialed providers in Central Virginia. 54 of 78 beds are currently occupied, representing an approximately 69% occupancy rate, which indicates moderate availability.
The assisted living component has undergone 5 state inspections, fewer than the Virginia average of 14, which aligns with a more recent presence in the inspection dataset. All of which resulted in cited violations, representing a 100% rate, higher than the state average of 64.3%. However, the total number of deficiencies is 12, well below the statewide average of 32, suggesting that findings were generally limited. Common issues have included documentation accuracy, particularly related to uniform assessment instruments, medication administration practices, adherence to care plans, and certain physical environment safety items. Additionally, there are no records of complaint investigations, fines, or license suspensions. With this regulatory history, families are encouraged to consider the consistent citation pattern alongside the relatively low number of total deficiencies and the community’s accreditation status.

Frequently Asked Questions about Assisted Living in Virginia
What's the difference between assisted living and memory care in Virginia?
Assisted living in Virginia supports residents with daily activities (bathing, dressing, medication management) while preserving independence. Memory care is a specialized form of assisted living for residents living with Alzheimer's or dementia, and adds 24/7 secured environments, dementia-trained staff, and structured routines designed to reduce confusion and wandering.
What's the difference between assisted living and a nursing home in Virginia?
Assisted living in Virginia is a residential model focused on housing, hospitality, and help with daily activities. Nursing homes (skilled nursing facilities) provide 24/7 medical care from licensed nurses for residents with significant health needs, and are regulated more strictly under both state and federal CMS rules.
Does Virginia Medicaid cover assisted living?
Virginia Medicaid does not directly pay room-and-board for assisted living, but most states (including Virginia) offer Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) waivers that can offset the cost of care services delivered inside a licensed community. Eligibility, waitlists, and covered services vary — check directly with the state Medicaid agency.
What is assisted living?
Assisted living combines private or semi-private apartments with help on activities of daily living (meals, bathing, dressing, medication management) and a social calendar — for residents who need some support but do not need 24/7 medical care.
How many assisted living facilities are listed on this page?
This page features 383 assisted living facilities in Virginia. Use the filters and comparison tools above to compare ratings, amenities, and pricing.
How do I choose the right assisted living facility in Virginia?
Start by matching the level of care offered to the resident's current and anticipated needs, then compare licensing status, staff-to-resident ratios, recent inspection results, and pricing. Tour at least two or three communities in Virginia, talk to current residents and families, and confirm what is included in the base rate versus billed as add-on services.
What should I look for when visiting assisted living facilities in Virginia?
Pay attention to staff interactions with residents, cleanliness and odor, food quality at meal times, the activity calendar, and how questions about pricing and care plans are answered. Ask to see the most recent state inspection report, the move-out / level-of-care-change policy, and a sample monthly bill that lists every fee.
